We
use three different ways of roof construction
in the Algarve; the concrete ribs filled with
cimentblocks and covered with concrete, a
version with ribs and roof tiles and the wooden
roof.
The filigree system
In the rib construction for the roof the
ribs are laid on the roof structure walls
and in between the ribs, the cimentblocks
are slotted in. On this cover we put a steel
mat, a layer of concrete and a layer of
insulation material. Then there are slats
made of cement and on those, the roof tiles
are clipped on.
The light
version
The light version is built with the roof structure
walls and concrete ribs. The roof tiles are
then put strait on the ribs.
The wooden
roof
Like in most countries, the roof construction
walls are being built first. Then we put on
the wooden beams. On the beams the boards
are nailed. On top of the boards there is
a layer of 5 cm. of cork, used for thermal
and acoustic insulation. Then we put on the
roof slats and the roof tiles, to finish off
a waterproof roof.
